The Joint Committee on Public Health has scheduled a public hearing of the End of Life Options Act (S. 1208 and H. 1926) that would legalize physician-assisted suicide (PAS). The meeting will be held at the State House in the Gardner Auditorium from 11 am until 5 pm. The PAS bill is the only item on the agenda for this meeting.
This comes just eight days after the Joint Committee on the Judiciary hearing on the ROE Act and almost 60 other bills on a wide variety of topics starting at 1 pm. This information has circulated on just about every Massachusetts pro-life list around.
This is the only notice I have seen regarding the PAS hearing. The latest Emmanuel Radio Witness for Life program features Anne Fox discussing ways to let the committee know we are against PAS, including giving testimony at the State House or just coming to show your opposition. You can listen to the program Tuesdays and Thursdays at 8 pm, Saturdays at 7 am and 6 pm. Witness for Life – Show 2 is available on demand through Emmanuel Radio podcasts.
How can you get involved?
“Hello my name is _____, and I am from (town). I am calling about the End of Life Options Act, House Bill 1926 (Senate Bill 1208). I am calling to ask Representative _____ (Senator _____) to NOT pass this bill out of committee and to vote AGAINST it if it comes up for a full vote. I am strongly opposed to putting vulnerable people at risk of being pressured into assisted suicide if this is legalized.”
Most likely you will speak with an aide asked to leave a message; rarely would you actually speak to a legislator directly. Here are all the committee members with contact information added for Central Massachusetts (contact information for the chairs are at the top.)
